25 Weeks Pregnant | Pregnancy Week By Week


Can you believe you’re already 25 weeks pregnant? When you first found out you were pregnant, it probably seemed like 25 weeks was so far away, but it has come faster than you thought it would, hasn’t it? The end of your pregnancy will be here before you know it! For most moms-to-be, that is both an exciting and a scary thought. There’s excitement about finally getting to meet your little one and experiencing the joys of motherhood. But the thought of going through labor and delivery can be scary for first-time moms. Heck, it’s even scary for moms who’ve done this a time or two before. All you can do is be as prepared as possible for what to expect. Take a birthing class. Talk to other moms. Talk to your doctor about your concerns. You’ve got this!

At 25 weeks pregnant, your baby is the size of a rutabaga! Your little one is measuring about 13.6 inches long and weighs around 1.5 pounds!



You might be at the point in your pregnancy where you’re beginning to get a bit uncomfortable at times. Your growing belly makes it hard to find a comfortable position to sleep in, you have aches and pains you never knew you could experience on a daily basis, and the symptoms you’re experiencing aren’t helping in the least.

Here are the symptoms you may be experiencing at 25 weeks pregnant:

  • Hemorrhoids. Oh yes, you read that right. Hemorrhoids. That word sends shivers down your spine, doesn’t it? Hemorrhoids are just swollen veins in your anal cavity. They are common in the second half of pregnancy because of all the pressure the baby is putting on your digestive tract. Hemorrhoids can be painful and itchy. You can buy ointments and medicated pads that can relieve the pain and itchiness. Constipation contributes to the hemorrhoids too – which leads us to the next pregnancy symptom.
  • Constipation. Another common symptom during pregnancy. Your digestive tract is all out of whack, which can make for difficulties relieving yourself. Straining to use to the bathroom is not a good idea (especially if you want to avoid making those hemorrhoids worse!), so make sure you have plenty of fiber in your diet, stay hydrated, and take frequent walks to keep things moving smoothly.
  • Gas and bloating. Another symptom attributed to that out of whack digestive system.
  • Peeing a lot. Now that the baby is getting bigger, things are getting much more crowded in there, so more pressure is getting put on your bladder causing you to have to pee, like, a lot. Drinking less to try to avoid having to pee so much is not a good idea. All you’ll succeed at doing is dehydrating yourself and causing other problems in your pregnancy. You just have to get used to having to pee every 10 minutes for the duration of your pregnancy. Sorry!
  • Heartburn. Add this to the list of symptoms caused by your crazy digestive system. Try to stay away from greasy and acidic foods. And check with your doctor about whether it’s okay to take an antacid – it should be fine, but better to be safe than sorry!
  • Difficulty sleeping. Many pregnant women – okay, most pregnant women have trouble sleeping in the second half of their pregnancy. This could be due to your ever-enlarging belly and not being able to get comfortable. It could be due to anxieties you may be having about labor and delivery or parenthood in general. Or it could be due to any number of other reasons. You kind of need to play the trial and error game and just try different things each night until one of them helps you sleep better. For example, try taking a warm bath before bed to help relax you. Or try drinking some warm milk or a calming tea before bed. Something is sure to help you get a little bit more sleep each night!
  • Braxton Hicks contractions. These “practice” contractions can sometimes feel almost like the real thing – and it’s perfectly normal to be having them! Lying down on your side and drinking water can often help make them go away.



You’re probably feeling your little one move around like crazy at 25 weeks pregnant. The kicks and movements are getting strong enough at this point that other people can feel them too when they place their hand on your belly.

By now, you’ve likely gained around 15 to 18 pounds if you have just one baby growing in your belly. If you’re pregnant with twins, that weight gain should be somewhere in the 25 to 40-pound range. That seems like a lot, doesn’t it? If there are any concerns with your weight, your doctor will alert you and give you tips on how to get back on track with your weight gain.



You probably won’t have an ultrasound at 25 weeks pregnant, unless the baby needs extra monitoring for some reason. If you were to have an ultrasound this week, you’d see your baby looking a bit chunkier and you might even catch a glimpse of some hair!

The baby is figuring out which way is up and which way is down now, too. Because your baby can hear in the womb, he or she can become startled by loud noises. You might even notice your baby responding to certain sounds such as the sound of your voice, your significant other’s voice, or even certain types of music. It can be fun to play around with different sounds to see which ones excite your little one!



Here are a few things you should be doing at 25 weeks pregnant:

  1. Help plan your baby shower. Someone close to you may be planning a baby shower for you. Jump in and help them plan it. There’s nothing wrong with being a part of the preparations for your own baby shower. It’s part of the fun!
  2. Take a trip. Now is a great time to take a trip with your significant other or even with your girlfriends. Have a little fun and relaxation before the baby arrives and things get too chaotic to take a trip for a while!
  3. Start preparing the nursery. Whether your baby will have a room all to himself or will be sharing your room, there’s no better time to start getting the baby’s area ready for his arrival!
